Aged Dependent Relative Visa (Subclass 114)

Table of Contents

This visa is for an aged individual who would like to relocate permanently to seek relative support.

This permanent visa lets a single older person, who relies on a relative living in Australia for financial support, move to Australia permanently. For citizenship purposes, it is granted upon entering Australia with this visa or when you have been present in Australia and held a permanent visa immediately before your last departure.

With this visa you can:

  1. Stay in Australia indefinitely
  2. Work and study in Australia
  3. Enrol in Australia’s public healthcare scheme, Medicare
  4. Sponsor your relatives to come to Australia
  5. Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Aged Dependent Visa, you must:

  1. Have an eligible relative or relative's partner sponsor you for this visa, and the sponsorship must be approved.
  2. Meet the age requirement, which is aligned with the eligibility age for receiving the Australian age pension, currently undergoing a gradual increase from 65 to 67 years.
  3. Demonstrate dependency on your relative in Australia for necessities such as food, shelter and clothing for a minimum of 3 years before applying for the visa. Dependency due to a disabling condition preventing work also qualifies
  4. Confirm that you have no partner to be eligible for this visa.
  5. Obtain an Assurance of Support to ensure self-sufficiency and prevent reliance on government assistance upon your arrival. This assurance covers both you and any family members accompanying you.
  6. Meet the health and character requirements, as well as ensure that family members applying with you meet these criteria. Additional non-migrating family members may also be required to meet these standards.
  7. Ensure that any debts owed to the Australian Government by you or your family members have been repaid or have an approved repayment arrangement.
  8. Be aware that your visa and application history are considered, which may affect eligibility. Previous visa cancellations or application refusals may result in limitations and restrictions, especially if applying in Australia.
  9. Recognise that the visa will not be granted if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.

Note: You and all applicants must be outside Australia when you apply and when a decision is made.

Inclusion of family members

You can include family members in your application or add them before the decision is made. Details of all family members, whether migrating or not, are required in the application form.

Eligible Family Members:

Family members eligible for this visa are your dependent child and stepchild.

  1. Family members applying with you must meet health and character requirements.
  2. Family members not migrating to Australia might also need to meet the health requirements.
