Basic Eligibility

  1. You must comply with all Australian laws.
  2. You must be in Australia when the application is decided (this also applies to anyone included in your application).

Eligibility Criteria - Bridging Visa E (Subclass 050)

This visa lets you stay lawfully in Australia while you make arrangements to leave, finalise your immigration matter or wait for an immigration decision.

  1. You must be an unlawful non-citizen, the holder of a BVE (subclass 050) or the holder of a Bridging visa D (BVD) (subclass 041) when you apply for this visa, and 1 of the following must apply to you:
    1. You must be making arrangements to depart Australia.
    2. You must be applying for a substantive visa.
    3. You must be seeking merits or judicial review of a visa decision or citizenship decision, or be seeking ministerial intervention.
  2. You can be any age to apply for this visa. If you are under 18 years of age you must apply with your parent/guardian.
  3. You must meet the character requirement. Other family members might also be asked to meet the requirement.

Eligibility Criteria - Bridging Visa E (Subclass 051)

This visa lets you stay in Australia while your Protection visa application is being processed.

  1. You must have been refused immigration clearance or bypassed immigration clearance and come to our notice within 45 days.
  2. You must have applied for a protection visa.
  3. You must be in immigration detention.
  4. You must meet other specific requirements relating to age, health or nomination, or you meet the requirements for a further BVE (subclass 051).
  5. You and any family members who apply for the visa with you may need to meet the health requirements.
  6. You must meet the character requirement. Other family members might also be asked to meet the requirement.
