Trades Recognition Australia (TRA)

Table of Contents

The TRA conducts the Australia Migration Skills Assessment (MSA), a requirement for skilled migration and employment in trade occupations.

Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) is a division of the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment, responsible for assessing and recognising the skills and qualifications of individuals in trade occupations for migration and employment purposes in Australia. They play a key role in supporting skilled migration and workforce development by ensuring that individuals meet the required standards for their respective trades.

Migration Skills Assessment (MSA)

  1. Purpose: Required for skilled migration visa application to the Department of Home Affairs.
  2. Outcome: Recognises skills and experience at the required level for work in the nominated occupation.
  3. Limitations: Solely applicable for visa application to Home Affairs, not for employment, licensing, or qualification-recognition purposes.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Migration Skills Assessment (MSA), ensure you meet the following criteria:

  1. Possess a qualification closely aligned with your nominated occupation.
  2. Acquire the necessary duration of directly pertinent work experience in your occupation.
  3. Familiarise yourself with the employment prerequisites outlined in the MSA Applicant Guidelines.
  4. Confirm that your occupation is included in a skilled occupation list with TRA specified as the relevant assessing authority.

Notably, you are exempt from applying for MSA if you are pursuing the Offshore Skills Assessment Program (OSAP) or the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) Skills Assessment Program.
